The Siam fighting fish or simply fighting fish (Betta splendens), also known as betta fish, is a species of freshwater fish of the family Osphronemidae in the order Perciformes. They are native to Southeast Asia, mostly in Thailand and Cambodia. They reach a size of about 6 cm and have a life span of about 3 to 5 years. Today, due to selective breeding, there is a wide variety of colours and fin shapes. The shape of the tail varies from sail-like to "half-moon" tails.
